When was the new site launched?
The redesigned research.wustl.edu was launched Monday, June 30, 2008.
Why has the site been redesigned?
The OVCR website should be a valuable tool for the WU research community.
Unfortunately, the site was an outdated, disorganized, and therefore underutilized resource.
We have redesigned the site to function as a consolidated source of information related to research compliance, administration, and management.
When is routine site maintenance scheduled?
Brief interruptions in site accessibility may occur during routine site maintenance. Maintenance windows for research.wustl.edu and its underlying servers are as follows:
Windows updates: Second Tuesday of the month, 9pm - 9:20pm
SharePoint updates: Saturdays, 6pm - 10pm
Exceptions: If Information Services & Technology (IS&T) receives a high risk security update out of this cycle, maintenance may need to be applied immediately and without advance notice.
Will bookmarks created pre-launch continue to work?
At this time, only sites under the research.wustl.edu domain will be affected. Because most information on research.wustl.edu links OUT to other domains, most bookmarks should continue to function. However, if you have any bookmarks to links within the domain that end in “.html”, the suffix of the link should be changed to “.aspx”
What are the features of the new site?
The new site will improve user ability to locate information via:
Intuitive Navigation
drop-down menus accessible from any page on the new site will provide multiple pathways to access information
Competent Search Engine
the new search tool will search only WUSTL sites related to research administration, management, and compliance
Print-friendly Web Pages
the printer icon button at the top right of most web pages on the new site provides a print-friendly version of the page.
Enhanced Access to Current Research News and Events
look no further than the new homepage for the latest Research News announcements and Event information
How do I navigate the new site?
Content on the new site is accessed via the links and drop-down menus provided at the top of every page on the OVCR site. Users may also use the Search feature (upper right corner) to scan all WUSTL websites related to research administration, management, and compliance.
A brief description of the content within each drop-down menu category is below:
| About the OVCR |
VCR Homepage, Institutional Data, Annual Reports, etc. |
Compliance Areas and Offices & Committees |
The information within these two categories mirrors each other, providing access to the correct destination whether a user knows the name of the entity (Disclosure Review Committee) they are looking for or only the general area (Conflict of Interest). |
| Policies & Guidelines |
Listing and location of Washington University policies and guidelines that cover research and related activities. |
| Project Management |
Chronological listing of resources available for each step in research project management. Menu items in this category include: Finding Collaborators, Identifying Funding, Proposal Development, Proposal Submission, Award Management, and Project Closeout. |
| Resources |
Listing of research-related services, tools, and other resources. |
My website links to , how do I assure that the current hyperlinks will continue to work properly?
At this time, only sites under the research.wustl.edu domain will be affected. Because most information on research.wustl.edu links OUT to other domains, most hyperlinks should not be affected. However, if you have any hyperlinks that link within the research.wustl.edu domain that end in “.html”, the suffix of the link should be changed to “.aspx”
What’s next?
The launch of the new homepage marks the completion of the first phase of a larger website improvement project for the OVCR. For more information on this project, please visit About this Site. During the second phase of the project, websites for research-related offices and other entities will be migrated to the new site design.
