Human and Mouse Linked Evaluation of Tumors
The vision of the HAMLET Core is to promote understanding of the biology and genetics of human cancer and to provide better preclinical models to validate new treatment and imaging approaches. These aims are achieved by establishing patient-derived xenografts (PDX) tumor lines which display genomic characteristics that are closely related to the human tumor from which they originated.
The mouse is an easily manageable system which avoids most of the problems and artifacts of attempted in-vitro cultures. Washington University Human in Mouse (WHIM) tumor lines have been propagated to at least three serial passages and have been characterized by gene expression, aCGH, and in some cases complete whole genome sequencing and proteomics. The core currently has 300 PDX lines across 11 cancer types. All PDX models are available to collaborations.
Core Description
The vision of the HAMLET Core is to promote understanding of the biology and genetics of human breast cancer and to provide better preclinical models to validate new treatment and imaging approaches. These aims are achieved by providing investigators tumor lines which display genomic characteristics that are closely related to the human tumor from which they originated.
