Dear WashU research community,
I am thrilled to announce that Johnnie Cartwright has agreed to take on the role of Assistant Vice Chancellor for Research and Chief of Staff to the Vice Chancellor for Research (VCR), starting today. In this role she will work closely with me and many other stakeholders to plan, implement, communicate, monitor and assess initiatives of the various offices that impact our research mission. She will play an active role to work effectively with internal and external stakeholders, and she will be responsible for identifying problems, researching critical issues, strategizing potential solutions, coordinating key operational leaders to achieve consensus, recommendations and proposed action plans to either resolve problems or mitigate risk. She will lead special projects that cross the operational lines of the VCR and may include facilitating institutional policies, managing relationships between partner institutions, assessing resource and organizational needs to support new priorities or regulations, and more.
Johnnie brings maturity, passion and experience in the research mission to the role. For the last three years, she has been the Core Leader and Senior Manager of Operations for the Biologic Therapy Core Facility, where she directed the manufacturing operations, regulatory compliance, project planning and budget development for the Facility’s wide-ranging drug product portfolio. She has extensive knowledge of regulatory affairs, provides regulatory consultation and guidance to the University’s leaders and researchers, and has been a member of the IRB since 2016.
In previous roles at Siteman Cancer Center, she provided senior-level project management, process improvement and strategic business planning for its clinical service lines and research administration. Johnnie joined the University in 2010 with over 15 years of experience in a diverse range of business functions, leadership and regulatory affairs for clinical laboratories and commercial pharmaceutical manufacturing. A registered Medical Technologist with the American Society for Clinical Pathologists, she has a BS in Clinical Laboratory Science and a Master of Business Administration.
Please join me in welcoming Johnnie to our leadership team in the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research.
Sincerely,
Jennifer Lodge, PhD
Vice Chancellor for Research
