Dear WashU Research Community,
I am delighted to announce that Gregory Storch, MD, has agreed to take on the role of Research Integrity Officer (RIO) for Washington University, effective July 1, 2018. Greg will replace Aubrey Morrison, MBBS, MACP, who has served in this role since 2006.
Greg is the Ruth L. Siteman Professor of Pediatrics, and also holds joint appointments in the Departments of Medicine and Molecular Microbiology. Greg is a nationally renowned scholar, teacher, and clinician with impressive accomplishments in virology and the molecular identification of new and emerging pathogens. His current research interest is in the use of the host response to assist in the diagnosis of infectious diseases. He also continues to work on applications of next-generation sequencing for infectious disease diagnosis. Greg has proven leadership skills in his storied career at Washington University, serving as Director of the Divisions of Infectious Diseases and Laboratory Medicine in the Department of Pediatrics, Director of the Virology and Microbiology Laboratories at St. Louis Children’s Hospital, and past-President of the Pan-American Society for Clinical Virology. He also served as chairman for two years on the School of Medicine’s Executive Committee of the Faculty Council, the highest elected position among the medical school faculty.
Greg is well respected by his colleagues and students, earning numerous awards including Best Doctors in America 1992-Present, and several Distinguished Service Teaching Awards. He has been a Fellow in the American Academy of Microbiology since 2000.
As Washington University’s RIO, Greg will have responsibility for fostering a research environment that promotes the responsible conduct of research. He will provide several lectures annually at the Danforth and School of Medicine campuses on ethical research practices. He also will be responsible for administering Washington University’s policy and procedures on research integrity, including authorship on scientific and scholarly publications. In this capacity, he will serve as the Chair of the Research Integrity Committee for both campuses.
